A few months ago, I tried to get 100% in ADR. [I'm on browser by the way.] The battleship had just been added, and I wanted to try my hand at it. Unfortunately, after I died about three times in a row to the immortal wanderer, I got fed up and quit.
Today I decided to try again, and succeeded. I'll put how I beat the immortal wanderer a little further below, since that's not my main question.
Point is, after getting the fleet beacon, I got to space and found the wanderer fleet. It was completely wrecked and there was nobody there. Then my spaceship ran out of air and I died (I think).
Awesome.
I've been a bit disillusioned with this game for the past few months because, while I understood it was trying to present a violent, destructive, murderous character who enslaved the villagers and forced them to work, it felt like that never really got addressed in the game's treatment of my character. Like, the fact that the character was obviously doing bad things didn't mesh well with the little dopamine hits the player gets when the resource counters go up. I didn't necessarily want the character to be punished; I more wanted the player to be punished, I guess. I wanted to lose progress dramatically despite my best efforts. I wanted the people who kept attacking me to try rescuing some of my villagers. I wanted the builder to leave, or at least for her leaving to mean something. But maybe that's just me.
Anyway, this is why the character getting punished- the wanderer fleet being dead, and the character dying too at the end- felt both cathartic and anticlimactic. Like, obviously the character deserved it, and it was meaningful in the story, but it also made me happy. And I don't feel like this game should make me happy- that's kind of against the point.
I guess my question is: does anyone else feel this way about the ending? Did I even get the actual final ending? And why did the devs retroactively add this in as a reward?

Addendum: to beat the immortal wanderer, I used the following, in order of importance:
-kinetic armor
-multiple bolas (at least 3) and stims (at least 2)
-plenty of meat, 5-ish hypos, and some meds
-every weapon I had in my arsenal: energy, iron, and steel swords; bayonet; 2 or 3 grenades; regular rifle with 30 bullets; laser rifle with 10 bullets
The most valuable thing you can use in this fight is stun damage. The immortal wanderer can kill you in two hits, even with kinetic armor, but if you immobilize it consistently you'll be able to protect yourself. Use bolas and stims, while not constantly, whenever possible.
Also, you'll need to keep your shield up as much as possible. Keep an eye on this and refresh it whenever it goes down.
Whenever you have a moment to think about it, eat some meat. If you haven't in a while, use a hypo or some meds. You have nothing to lose- this is the final boss, and if you die you're going to lose all your stuff anyway.
And finally, spam every possible weapon button in the meantime. They'll make, like, a solid block, so it's not hard to click as many of them as possible. This coming from someone who hates weapons and uses Unarmed Master as much as possible. But I promise you, there's no way to beat this thing without using multiple weapons at once. Especially bayonet and grenade, which do a lot of damage and can be really helpful. (Idk about plasma rifle, I haven't tried it.)
